Hellier Sunrise Ole Bull Spanish violoncello Spanish Quartet (two violins viola cello ) Greffuhle Rode etc. The second cello made in 2004. Inlaid work with white shells and ivory. It's been over ten years since the last time I worked on an inlaid instrument. It was such an exhaustive work for me physically and mentally. Please try to imagine how this instrument would sound… Actually this cello has already been played at different concerts by Mr. Martin Storey with a chamber orchestra and with a large orchestra. Inlaid cello ordered by Mr. O who graduated from the master's course at Tokyo Univesity. An autograph of a person that he has a great respect as his teacher, and pictures of angels, which I copied from Raffaello's picture, are drawn on top of the back board. The color of the left one is close to its actual one. Take a close look at the part under the finger board, and you will be able to see something there. I'll put out its photo later, so please wait for a while.
while.
Ordered by an amateur cellist Mr. U. He asked Mr. Mitsuhiro Amada, a cellist and painter, and is known for his "Ama・neko(cats) collections, for some of his original paintings to be put on his instrument. I drew these pictures f cats using black resin. (I tried to trace all the painter's brush touches as faithfully as I could.) Mr. U made a kind comment about this violin. " The pictures are, of course, very attracting, but beyond that, the essence of this cello is in its tone. All these patterns are chiseled, and filld with black resin, mixed with evony paste. I have also inlaid an emblem of this young lady's high school in the center. o this violin, decorations are seen at the four edges of the top part of the back, carved with the chisel and filled with black resin. The orderer requested his family emblem, a fan, be put on top in the center. The design of the fan was so detailed and it was just impossible to be carved that I used a very fine paint brush to draw it. This orderer's name is not carved but hand -drawn with black resin. Ordered by a lady violinist Its whole out line and the f-hole being copied from the design of "BETTS" , one of the Stradivarius collections of his golden period. "Stradivarius", so famous for the excellency, has such variety in the forms, and with the shapes of f-holes. "BETTS", especially I feel, has sense of feminineness, so I incorporated the pattern of its design for the violinist. Encountering this instrument was the beginning for me to start aiming to be a specialist of decorated instruments. Surely this instrument is the starting point of my shop. Yet, my instruments are not merely exact copies of Hellier, Stradivari. Both the outlines and patterns of my works are the originals of my own. The "f" ( or sound ) holes are quite long, and both the styles of the " f " holes and the outline can be described as so-called "Guarneri Model", yet it is nonetheless my original. We accept orders for decolated violins and violas only. Please feel free to inquire us about orders for cellos and etc. Each and every piece is going to be designed just for you who order. Therefore, it should be your only special and original instrument that none other in the world exists. If you dare wish not to have decoration on what you order, we will take the request, and not put any on. And also, it is possible to have decoration on your instrument later on, after it all being finished. Matsumoto Shin 1955 Born in Morioka, the capital city of Iwate prefecture, Japan. 1975 Entered Muroran Institute of Technology ( National College ), and majored in Architectural engineering. Along with studying architectural designing, structural dynamics and aucostic engineering, loved string music, and got interested in stringed instruments themselves. 1977 In the third year in college, went to Italy, Spain, etc. for making researches into European architecture, and at that time I stopped by in Cremona, in order to visit around the workshops of Morassi, Conia and others who are widely known and regarded as fine craftsmen in modern era, and had received a great impression there. As to graduate from the college, for the design competiton of graduating work, won the first (gold) prize in entire Hokkaido district ( with two others working together; I was in charge of designing a community space with a music hall included ). Yet, more and more attracted to "violin-making", a combination of aucostics, structural dynamics and art, headed toward the way to making stringed instruments. 1979 Graduated from Muroran National Institute of Technology with B.E. in architect. After graduating, moved to Tokyo, and entered in the workshop of Master Ueki, widely known as a violin-maker and a dealer, then, pursued 6 years of studies and apprenticeship under his guidance, and learned violin-making technics, of course, and technics of repairing, adjusting, and also a very important spirit as a craftman. 1986 Before being independent, went back to Europe again. Visited around quite a few shops of violin-makers, lumber dealers in Germany and Italy mainly, had received many stimulations and much inspiration. Back to my hometown, Morioka, and formally opened my own shop in the same year. Started taking a great interest in decorated instruments, which are rare among all the stringed instruments. Especially attracted by " Hellier", " Sunrise" of Stradivari, considered to be the tops of decorated violins, I had repeatedly tried to study, design and make different ones, and have established my own original methods and fully facinating designs. Since then ,receiving orders from students, future musicians, music performers and collectors of musical instruments, continue making violins. Now, a full member of Japan String Instrument Makers Association (JSIMA), the most authoritative instrument association in Japan. And also, a member of Japanese string teachers association(JASTA). 1955 Born in Morioka, the capital city of Iwate prefecture, Japan. 1975 Entered Muroran Institute of Technology ( National College ), and majored in Architectural engineering.
